Benriach Malting Season (First Edition)
The initial release from Benriach's Malting Season series shines a spotlight on the distillery's traditional malting floor. Each year, for one month, the distillery hand-malts its barley on this historic floor, and it is this very barley that has been used for this expression. Distilled in November 2012, it was matured in a combination of bourbon and virgin oak casks, and bottled at 48.7% ABV. This expression is a wonderful showcase of traditional whisky production methods. The nose features scents of pear drops and Campino sweeties, complemented by earthy barley and a hint of freshly cut oak for balance. On the palate, it delivers notes of vanilla, lemon, grassy malt, toffee, and melted butter on crumpets. The finish leaves a lingering sweetness of caramel and vanilla pod.
